Introduction
One of the problems in churches
today is what I term as "Sword-of-the-Lord-itis". That
means that churches work hard to lead souls to Christ (as
they should), publish the number seated in their services
and the number that they believe they have lead to the Lord,
and go out and do it again, leaving the newly converted to
fend for themselves. This does lead to large
congregations for a time and to large cash flow where that
is the purpose. But is that all Jesus commanded
us to do?
John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time,
Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou
me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him
the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him,
Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love
thee. Jesus saith unto him,
Feed my sheep.
Feed my sheep - how are we to do that?
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
1Corinthians 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that
perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is
the power of God.
Ephesians 4:11-14
(11) And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and
teachers;
(12)For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of
Christ:
(13)Till we all come in the unity of the
faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a
perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the
fulness of Christ:
(14)That we henceforth be no more children,
tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of
doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
The purpose of churches is not
just to win souls to Christ, it is also for the "edifying of
the saints" - in other words, helping them to learn and grow
in their Christian life. Failure to do this has left
our churches weak spiritually and has caused many of the
newly saved to fall by the wayside because they have either
shriveled on the vine from lack of food or been led astray
by false "winds of doctrine". But it is not only the
responsibility of the church to teach.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to
shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth.
In this regard the internet has
become a huge problem - where do the young in Christ go to
learn and know that you are not being led astray? Paul has
told us that Satan has many people in the pulpit for that
very purpose in
II Corinthians 11:10-15.
10
As the truth of Christ is in me,
no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of
Achaia.
11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God
knoweth.
12 But what I do, that I will do, that I
may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion;
that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful
workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of
Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is
transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if
his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of
righteousness; whose end shall be according to their
works.
That leads us to this
page. In the coming months it is our hope to fill
these pages with sound, spiritual doctrine where the young
in Christ can study and grow and the mature can read and
rejoice. Some of this material will come from within our
congregation, some from without after it has been verified
to be sound doctrinally.
Doctrinally for who -
Baptist? Yes and no. We are Baptist in the sense
that we worship in an Independent "Baptist" church,
but we are not bound the the name "Baptist" and hold no
belief that being called a Baptist places us any nearer or
farther away from God than anyone else. Our faith and
beliefs are based in the Holy Word of God (the KJV 1611
Bible to the English speaking nations), not to what we call
ourselves as a congregation. We are all just sinners
saved by grace.
